In a talk with Francesco Meda & David Lopez Quincoces
Since 2020, Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces have led the creative direction of Acerbis, charting a path that combines innovation with the safeguarding of historical heritage.
As the Directors explain, until now the aim has been to preserve and affirm the brand’s legacy: “[…] in the past we chose to work discreetly, remaining behind the scenes. The priority was to give coherence and continuity to the collection, protecting the brand’s identity without imposing too personal a mark.” Over time, however, this mission has been joined by the need to create something new that would embody their way of seeing and understanding Acerbis: “This year we chose to take a different step: to design the Le Cupole table in order to introduce a new language, one capable of expressing our vision more directly. […] We felt it was the right moment to let a design statement emerge that would enrich Acerbis’s heritage.”
Presented at the Salone del Mobile 2025, Le Cupole takes its name from the three marble domes that form the base of the table and support the round top, creating a balance between monumentality and lightness. “The bases of the table evoke the solidity and sculptural strength of architectural structures, while the linear top engages with them in a balance of solids and voids,” – say Meda and Quincoces – “The project does not simply reprise a symbol, but reinterprets it in a contemporary key, conveying an idea of conviviality that brings together formal rigour and poetic suggestion.”
As in all Acerbis collections, in the Le Cupole table too, tradition and experimentation intertwine, giving life to a composition of timeless elegance. As explained by the creative directors: “Le Cupole embodies the language of Acerbis, […] which has always explored the encounter between memory and innovation […]. The strength of the project lies in its ability to transform an iconic image such as the dome, linked to Italian architectural tradition, into an essential and contemporary design feature. With this project, as creative directors, we tried to introduce a more narrative and evocative dimension, one that speaks not only of functionality and material innovation, but also of symbols, memories and cultural suggestions. A step that enriches the brand’s vocabulary, projecting it towards a contemporaneity that does not deny its roots but amplifies them.”
The refined marble finish and the high level of craftsmanship make the Le Cupole table unique, positioning it within the international design scene as an object that embodies Italian identity and spirit. As Meda and Quincoces explain: “The Le Cupole table was born from a powerful and universal image: that of the great Italian architectures, where domes mark the urban landscape as signs of identity and collective memory. The inspiration was to transform a form that belongs to everyone’s imagination into an everyday object, capable of carrying with it the same aura of monumentality and lightness.” Originally conceived in marble, Le Cupole presents itself as a classic and solemn table, enriched with brass details and veining that enhance its materiality.
