Brionne, reinterpreting Palla | Torri Lana
In the heart of Val Gandino, Bergamo, an area with a centuries-old textile tradition, Torri Lana has been carrying forward a story founded on technique, research and a culture of making since 1885.
Within the historic mill, weaving remains the heart of production, with 25 modern looms. Contemporary technology set within a manufacturing context where tradition and innovation coexist naturally, as reflected by the large red-brick chimney at the centre of the factory courtyard.
Luca Carrara and Massimo Belotti, owners of Torri Lana, retrace the journey of Brionne, a fabric created in the 1970s and now reinterpreted through a new expressive lens. Originally made with a thick cablé cotton yarn, Brionne created a small, regular and sculptural square pattern across the surface.
Its most recent evolution comes from replacing the cablé yarn with a voluminous wool-based bouclé, capable of breaking down the original geometry into a more irregular and tactile design. From a distance, it appears as a plain fabric: compact and textured. Up close, however, it reveals a precise pattern, rich in character.
Applied to Palla, Brionne emphasises the forms of the object and updates its presence through a new tactile and visual quality. Acerbis and Torri Lana come together through a shared affinity: an archival project, reissued and evolved through a contemporary lens.
