Conversations around Palla | Francesco Meda & David Lopez Quincoces
Art directors of Acerbis since 2020, Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces have been guiding the brand’s path through an ongoing dialogue between heritage and contemporaneity, with the aim of bringing the brand’s historic soul back to light and reinterpreting it in a modern key. Exploring the archive, engaging with new designers, and seeking to enhance products beyond any aesthetic cliché are central to their vision.
For the special edition Palla Round About Seventies, their intervention focused primarily on technical and construction aspects: “we worked on the materials and internal technologies […], improving the ergonomic and structural performance while preserving the visual and tactile perception of the object itself,” they explain. The use of foam in different densities made it possible to increase comfort, while the continuous lines and soft curves were faithfully preserved, maintaining Palla’s playful and distinctive character.
Presented by Claudio Salocchi at the end of the 1960s, the armchair still stands out today for the radical nature of its concept and the innovation embodied in its design. These are the elements that led the two art directors to develop a careful approach, capable of preserving its original identity and reintroducing it with renewed strength.
